Banana Smoothie

Creamy banana smoothie in a glass with honey drizzle

The first time I threw frozen banana slices into my blender at 7 a.m., I underestimated how fast it would turn into something that actually tasted like breakfast. Five minutes later, there was a creamy, honey-kissed smoothie on the counter and no excuses left.

This banana smoothie is the one I come back to. It’s creamy without being heavy, sweet enough for picky palates, and packed with potassium and fiber. My kids drink it every morning, and honestly, so do I.

Ingredients

  • Bananas — fresh or frozen. I use frozen. Slice them first, then freeze — it makes blending faster and the texture thicker.
  • Frozen yogurt — vanilla flavor works best here. Greek yogurt is a fine swap if you prefer it.
  • Milk — almond milk is my go-to, but use whatever dairy or non-dairy milk you keep on hand.
  • Vanilla extract — it adds depth. I put a dash of vanilla in most of my smoothies for this reason.
  • Honey — optional. A drizzle on top right before serving is my favorite touch.

How to Make It

  1. In a blender, combine ⅔ cup milk, ½ cup frozen yogurt, 1 cup banana (frozen or raw), and ¼ teaspoon vanilla extract. I’m currently using this affordable Ninja blender Ninja blender.
  2. Blend and pulse until completely smooth.
  3. Garnish with a drizzle of honey and a slice of banana.
  4. Serve immediately.

Tips for the Perfect Banana Smoothie

  • Freeze sliced bananas in airtight containers. Bananas are my most-used smoothie ingredient, so I always freeze any that start getting overripe.
  • Add a scoop of peanut butter if you want something richer.
  • A sprinkle of cinnamon is a great addition.
