Our Favorite Nourishing Holiday Recipes

Baked raspberry porridge with fresh berries and oats

The kitchen counter was still sticky from the last batch of cookies when it hit me: the holidays don’t have to mean choosing between food I love and food that makes me feel good.

I’ve rounded up some of my favorite nourishing holiday recipes — all made with whole foods, all dairy-free and gluten-free. They’re easy to make and store well for leftovers, which matters more than you’d think when the doorbell won’t stop ringing.

The goal isn’t perfection. It’s balance. Find that middle ground where you nourish yourself and still leave room for joy around the table.

How to Build a Balanced Holiday Plate

Here’s what I do: build every meal around five elements — non-starchy carbs, starchy carbs, healthy fat, protein, and a flavor factor. When all five show up on your plate, digestion stays smooth, blood sugar steadies, and energy holds up through the evening.

You don’t need it at every single meal. But when most of those elements are there for most meals, you’ll feel the difference.

Baked Raspberry Porridge

Sweet and savory in one dish. It uses pantry staples and frozen fruit, so it’s affordable and simple. Leftovers keep in the fridge all week — reheat and go.

Caramelized Onion and Pear Frittata

Frittatas are some of the easiest holiday recipes you can make. This one pairs caramelized onion and pear with protein-rich eggs. It works for breakfast, reheats well for lunch or dinner, and travels nicely.

Cinnamon Sweet Potato Smoothie

Smoothies aren’t the first thing that comes to mind for fall and winter — but they should be. This one tastes like autumn in a glass, and you can swap seasonal flavors throughout the colder months.

Main Course

Most holiday tables feature turkey or ham. If you prefer plant-based proteins, these recipes pack plenty of it without the effort.

Vegetarian Nut Loaf

A substantial, hearty vegetarian entree that doesn’t require hours at the stove. It’s become a go-to for intimate holiday gatherings — great for groups of 1 to 4 people.

Side Dishes

Plant-Based Green Bean Casserole

Fresh green beans and herbs meet a creamy plant-based mushroom soup. Steamed cauliflower is pureed in to create richness without any dairy.

Mashed Roasted Sweet Potatoes

Roasting gives these sweet potatoes a caramelized depth you can’t get from boiling. Fresh thyme adds a festive note, and gluten-free miso brings an earthy richness that pairs perfectly with the natural sweetness.

Gluten-Free Jalapeno Corn Bread

An oven, a skillet, and you’re done. It’s warm comfort food all year round. If jalapeños run too hot for your taste, swap in bell peppers or sundried tomatoes.

Dessert

Stewed Apples

A warm fruit dessert that brings cozy vibes to any table. Serve alone or with a scoop of ice cream. Top with pecans for extra crunch and healthy fat.

Homemade Raw Chocolate, Multiple Ways

Add strawberry puree, espresso, key lime juice, cocoa powder, or vanilla to the base — you get a variety of raw chocolates in minutes. Experiment with fillings like nut butter or fruit preserves for assorted flavors.

Cashew Butter and Raspberry Thumbprint Cookies

Just a few pantry and fridge ingredients. Swap the cashew butter and raspberry jam for your preferred nut butter and jam to make them your own.
